Applications

Hydroponic and drip-fed systems

Washed, low-EC coir and HDPE bags that do not fight your nutrient programme.

In a hydroponic system the growing medium is a container, not a soil. It should hold roots, drain freely and stay chemically inert. Washed coir does this well, provided the batch is low in salts and consistent.

The number that matters is the starting EC. Coir that was washed properly gives you a predictable root zone; coir that was rushed fights your nutrient solution and shows up as deficiency symptoms in week three. Ask for the batch figure, not a generic datasheet.

FAQ

Is cocopeat better than rockwool for hydroponics?

It is cheaper, easier to dispose of and holds water better. Rockwool gives more precise control of water and air. For most polyhouse vegetable operations in Punjab, coir is the more practical choice.

How often should run-off EC be checked?

Weekly at minimum, and daily during heat stress or after changing the nutrient recipe. Run-off tells you what the root zone is actually experiencing.
