How to use it
A short version. Full guidance comes with every order.
- 1
Place the block in a tub
Use a tub that holds at least 80 litres — the block expands to 70–75 litres, and you need room to mix. A 5 kg block needs roughly 18–20 litres of water.
- 2
Add water gradually
Pour 5–6 litres over the block, wait ten minutes, then repeat. Pouring everything at once leaves dry pockets in the centre.
- 3
Break it up
Once soft, break the block apart by hand and mix until the fibre is loose and evenly moist. Squeeze a handful — it should hold together without dripping.
- 4
Mix for your crop
Use straight for propagation. For longer crops, blend with compost, perlite or vermicompost at 60:30:10 and adjust with your usual nutrition programme.
Applications
Where it works best
- Nursery and seedling propagation
- Potting mixes for indoor and terrace plants
- Polyhouse vegetable seedling raising
- Mushroom casing blends (washed cocopeat)
FAQ
How much water does a 5 kg cocopeat block need?
Around 18–20 litres to fully expand. Add it in stages rather than all at once, and give the block ten minutes between pours so the water reaches the centre.
How many litres does one block make?
A 5 kg block expands to roughly 70–75 litres of loose coir. The 650 g block makes about 9–10 litres, which is enough for a few pots.
Can I use cocopeat straight from the block?
Not directly. It must be hydrated and broken up first. Dry compressed coir will draw moisture out of roots if used as-is.
Do I need to add fertiliser to cocopeat?
Yes. Cocopeat is a growing medium, not a fertiliser. It holds nutrients well but supplies almost none, so feed according to your crop plan from the first week.
