Vermicompost manure

Screened, mature vermicompost for potting mixes and beds

Fully decomposed, screened vermicompost made from cattle dung and crop residue. It is mature enough to use in potting mixes, adds organic matter and slow-release nutrition, and has far less raw smell and weed pressure than fresh manure.

How to use it

A short version. Full guidance comes with every order.

  1. 1

    Mix, do not plant straight

Use 20–30% vermicompost in a potting mix, with the rest cocopeat or soil and a little sand or perlite. Used neat, it holds too much moisture for small pots.

  2. 2

    Charge your cocopeat

Cocopeat supplies almost no nutrition. Mix one part vermicompost to three or four parts hydrated cocopeat for a ready-to-use growing mix.

  3. 3

    Apply before planting

For beds, spread 4–8 tonnes per acre (roughly 1–2 kg per square metre) and work it into the top 15 cm about a week before transplanting. For terrace bags, mix a handful into the fill.

  4. 4

    Store in shade

Keep bags under cover, off the floor, and out of direct sun. A dry, shaded stack keeps the biology alive and stops the bag sweating.

Applications

FAQ

Is vermicompost the same as cow dung manure?

No. Vermicompost is what earthworms produce after digesting decomposed organic matter. It is finer, more stable, lower in smell and safer for seedlings than fresh or half-rotted cow dung.

How much vermicompost should I mix into cocopeat?

One part vermicompost to three or four parts hydrated cocopeat is a good starting mix for vegetables and flowers. For seedlings, use less — around one part in five — and feed lightly.

Does it smell?

Mature, screened vermicompost has an earthy smell, not the sharp smell of raw manure. If a bag smells sour or of ammonia, it was not fully matured — do not use it on seedlings.

Can I use it for organic farming?

Vermicompost is a natural input and is widely used in organic systems. Certification depends on your full input chain and certifier, so confirm the paperwork your buyer requires.
